It's time for an update!

Let's catch up on what's been happening at the farm!

Splenda had a birthday, she enjoyed a treat plate full of grain, apples and carrots!

Splenda wasn't very interested in sharing.

Savannah & Maggie keep growing and growing!

We had a wonderful time at the Vasselboro Gardens Hospice Fundraising Event.

We're expecting FOUR more babies this year. Mary Lou, Sumita, Calypso and Aria are all due in August & September!

During the summer months we welcome visitors all week long from 9am-dusk! Come out, visit the alpacas and enjoy a beautiful day in Unity Maine.

It's getting hot in here - volunteers wanted!

It's hot and the alpacas are feeling it.  Even though they have recently been shorn, they alpacas feeling the heat.

How can you help?
We're looking for watering volunteers.  When it's 75+ degrees we try to hose the alpacas as much as possible.  Unfortunately, this distracts us from completing other farm duties.  There is a specific technique used to hose off alpacas and we'd like to teach you in exchange for you volunteering some of your time!

We would welcome you to come out to the farm any time it is 75+ degrees, grab the hose & start cooling down the alpacas! Especially the expecting mothers; having a baby on board makes this heat doubly unbearable! Aria, Sumita, MaryLou & Calypso would all greatly appreciate your time! (We would too!)

Requirements: 
At least 16 years old or under adult supervision
A love for alpacas

Fiber Frolic 2011

Whew! It's been a busy few weeks here at Northern Solstice.

We had an amazing time at the 2011 Fiber Frolic in Windsor Maine. It was great to meet so many talented fiber enthusiasts. We're looking forward to next year.

Has Sonni given birth yet?
Sonni still has not given birth yet! She has now carried her cria (baby) for 368 days. Hopefully with in the next few days Magnolia will have a friend!

How did she get her name?
Sugar Magnolia was named after a song sung by the Greatfull Dead, we thought the lyrics were perfectly fitting for such a sweet, delicate little girl.

Sugar magnolia, blossoms blooming, heads all empty and I don't care,
Saw my baby down by the river, knew she'd have to come up soon for air.

Sweet blossom come on, under the willow, we can have high times if you'll abide
We can discover the wonders of nature, rolling in the rushes down by the riverside.
